Curacao is certainly a Caribbean destination to consider: with fewer resorts and chain hotels than Bahamas or Jamaica and some of the best snorkeling and diving spots, Curacao is great for action-loving beach goers. But what about families with kids? Well, if you are traveling with kids, no matter how young, you should know that Curacao is still a very appealing destination.

There are fabulous beaches, as well as plenty of kid-friendly activities in Curacao that you and your family can enjoy – here are just a few of them:

Snorkeling

Curacao is definitely the place for snorkeling. With clear shallow waters and a rich and diverse underwater fauna, Curacao offers snorkelers an exciting experience. A great advantage of Curacao is that snorkeling and diving spots are close to the beach, so you won’t need to have a boat. Also, no special skills and some minimal equipment are required for this thrilling water sport, which makes it a favorite among Curacao visitors.

Swimming with the dolphins

There are few marine animals that enjoy more popularity among the young ones than dolphins. Which is why you simply cannot refuse your kids when they’ll be begging you to take them to the Dolphin Academy in Curacao. Located close to the island’s aquarium, this facility offers various types of dolphin encounters: you can swim, dive and even kiss these friendly, playful creatures.

Feed a shark

The Curacao Sea Aquarium is another source of family fun and exciting activities. With lots of interactive programs, this modern aquarium allows some very close encounters with some of the most fascinating creatures in the sea. One of their highlight programs allows visitors to hand feed sea animals such as sting-rays, turtles and even sharks.

Hop on a submarine

Wannabe sea explorers who are too young for diving lessons can still get a close look to Curacao’s intense reef live. The Atlantis Submarines offer customers the chance to go in an underwater trip through the reefs of Curacao, but without the fuss of getting wet. You can just sit back and watch the colorful fish and corals through the large submarine window.

Go undergound

Curacao’s underwater habitats are fascinating, but its undergrounds can be just as spectacular. The Hato Caves offer an interesting insight into the subterranean world, where in thousands and thousands of years, dripping water has carved limestone into authentic works of art. The bat colony and the mural paintings add up to the experience, and if distance is an incentive, you should know that the caves are quite close to the airport.
