Fine Dining in Curaçao

by roger4336

The island of Curaçao in the Lesser Antilles has managed to build up a strong reputation as one of the most classy and exclusive destination in the Caribbean. Curaçao is well known for its premiere diving spots and beaches, but there is also a lot of charm and sophistication in the Dutch-style architecture of it capital Willemstad. Curaçao visitors must also try to get a sample of the island’s exciting nightlife: if not for the bars and clubs, at least for the sake of its top-rated restaurants. You’ll find that there are plenty of possibilities for fine dining in Curaçao: from international and fusion restaurants to creole and local food, there is something to satisfy every taste. Here are some great places to start your culinary adventure in Curaçao:

European Style Restaurants

French and Italian are the best represented European cuisines in Curaçao. If you feel like eating a pizza or some delicious Italian dessert like tiramisu or gelato, head for Portofino, La Pergola or Giorgio Ristorante. French dishes can be tried either at Gouverneur de Rouville, either in the more sophisticated Bistro Le Clochard. As expected, Dutch cuisine and its delicious sweets like crepes and waffles are also present: ask for a Dutch Style breakfast at Landhuis Daniel.

International Cuisine Restaurants

When it comes to international cuisine (and here I will include the cuisine of the Americas, Asia and Africa), you’ll find Curaçao to be a very cosmopolitan destination. One of the most interesting restaurants you can try out in Curaçao is Asia de Cuba, an innovative mix of Asian and South American cuisines. There are a number of American style grills and steak houses such as Sol Food, the Grill King and The Ribs factory. Asian cuisine is omnipresent: Ho Wah, Oriental Express, Surabya, the Rose Garden and the New Great Wall are just a few names. For a taste of South America, book a table at El Entablao, La Casa Argentina or el Gaucho.

Caribbean and Curaçao Specific Cuisine

Of course, one cannot just leave Curaçao without getting to know its specific cuisine, which is locally known as krioyo. This cuisine is based on seafood but also includes steaks and numerous local fruits and vegetables. A good place to start your experience of Curaçao cuisine is the Astrolab Observatory Restaurant. For amazing Caribbean style seafood dishes, head for Landhuis Dokerstuin, a former plantation house which has now become one of the most popular restaurants on the island.
