So let’s say you are a bit bored with all that Christmas madness this year, are in no mood to shop for the perfect tree, freeze on your roof while hanging the Christmas lights or wait for hours for that turkey to roast. Well, it doesn’t have to be so, and the solution is quite simple: take your family and fly to the Caribbean. December is the peak season in the Caribbean, when you are likely to encounter the best possible weather.  Of course, vacations during this period can be a little more expensive. And just to avoid starting the new year with an empty pocket, here are some cheap Caribbean Destinations for Christmas 2012 you can check out:

Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic is one of the largest countries in the Caribbean; although it does share an island with another nation, the Dominican Republic is still big enough to offer countless accommodation possibilities.

Due to its size, the country can offer various types of accommodation, from eco-villas to apartment rentals – which means that you won’t depend on the big chain hotels who usually double their rates around Christmas. Also, the Dominican Republic is not only about beaches: inland, there are beautiful mountainous areas and the capital San Juan is much appreciated for its historic center and nightlife.

You might argue that Bahamas is not exactly part of the Caribbean from a strict geographic perspective: nevertheless, it has the same warm climate and lovely silver-sand beaches shaded by tall palm trees.

The fact that Bahamas is such a popular destination with US and Canadian travelers should not discourage you from researching inexpensive travel packages here. Quite the contrary: your chances to get a discounted last minute deal are considerable, not to mention that Bahamas so close to the continent, which means that air fares will be significantly cheaper.

The always sunny and laid-back Jamaica can also be counted as an inspired, cheap Caribbean destination for Christmas 2012. Just like the Dominican Republic, Jamaica has lots of locally owned B&B’s, bungalows and free access beaches.

In places like Negril and Montego Bay you will find entire communities where everything is locally owned and there are no big hotels or fancy resorts. Deciding to rent a locally owned apartment in Jamaica might mean that you have to self cater, but you’ll also have the cosiness and intimacy of a home, one essential characteristic of a memorable Christmas.
